Why I built this
Helping neighbors find the people already doing great work nearby.
Some of the best businesses on the Central Coast are nearly invisible online. They do great work and their customers love them, but a neighbor searching for exactly what they offer never finds them. Closing that gap is why this directory exists.
The way people search is changing too. Google now answers many questions right at the top of the page, and tools like ChatGPT skip the list of links entirely. Someone asks who the best plumber in Arroyo Grande is or where to take visiting family for dinner in Cambria, and they get a direct answer instead of a page of results to sift through. Those answers are assembled from whatever information these engines can find and understand, so a business that is not described clearly online gets left out of the conversation entirely.
That shift is exactly what this directory is built for. Every listing is written and structured so both traditional search and these newer answer engines can read it, trust it, and repeat it. When a neighbor asks that question, I would rather the answer be a local shop than a national chain. Basic listings are free for every business, featured placement is always labeled, and I keep improving this as owners and residents tell me what actually helps.

What AEO and GEO actually mean
Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) come down to one thing: describing a business clearly enough that search engines and AI assistants understand what it does, where it works, and who it serves. Every listing here is written and structured with that in mind, so being found does not depend on having a marketing budget.
